A photographer based in New York City, specializing in City Hall elopements and author photos.

Sylvie Rosokoff — photographer, cat lover, confetti thrower.

About

Widely praised for an ability to capture the ephemeral feeling of a day as it happens, Sylvie’s photos lean into spontaneous and unplanned moments. Whether celebrating how beautiful the city looks when it rains or welcoming an author’s cat to participate in a portrait shoot, Sylvie always meets her subjects where they are, and thrives off of the unique presence of each person she photographs.

Subway portraits, confetti photos, and vibrant colors are just a few signatures of the playful and discerning sensibility Sylvie brings to any shoot. Many of her clients are artists and creatives themselves, and she loves collaborating with couples and individuals to showcase their personal style, literary identity, or unique love story. While delivering timeless portraits to grace a mantel or book jacket, Sylvie also makes sure to incorporate personality and exuberance into both the photos and the shoot itself.

In author portraits, she strives to capture the subject’s authentic self. Much of her work is shot in the writer’s home or another environment to which they have a personal connection, where personal details such as a beloved pet or the neighborhood’s traffic add texture and feeling to the images.

Sylvie’s elopement shoots are joyful and inclusive. She appreciates the importance of meeting couples where they are and learning what the day means to them. This extra care allows her photos to reflect not merely the general idea of a wedding, but the particular connection between two specific people.

Featured in publications such as The New York Times, Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, The Anti-Bride, and The Cut, Sylvie’s work celebrates the gravity of big occasions, from the first moments of new marriage to the publication of an author’s new book, and lovingly highlights the unexpected quirks that make such occasions all the more memorable.

She prides herself on her ability to help anyone feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Before turning to photography full-time, Sylvie spent nearly a decade working at a literary agency. She has a deep familiarity with the many aspects of a writing career, which means she’s particularly attuned to an author’s needs during their portrait shoot. Sylvie loves working with authors at any and all stages in their careers, using her expertise, compassion, and singular eye to reflect their unique voice in photos.

An elopement or author photo shoot is often the first time a client may have been professionally photographed. Sylvie knows that this means it can be a vulnerable occasion, and she prides herself on her ability to help anyone feel comfortable in front of the camera. Additionally, she brings with her an encyclopedic knowledge of the logistical headaches that accompany planning a shoot, and guides her clients through every step, whether that means navigating the City Hall booking process or crafting an author’s look for a portrait shoot.

At the heart of it all:

Sylvie seeks to create a welcoming and compassionate environment in which taking photos becomes something fun, just one more part of a larger celebration.

Sylvie's philosophy

“I believe in maximalism, vibrant color, heart & soul,

and having a ton of fun!”

ON A PERSONAL NOTE:

Sylvie lives in Manhattan with her partner, Sean, and their pixie-bob cat, Icarus. In her free time, she can be found rehearsing the ukulele with her family band, Doctor Uke and Daughters, taking long walks in Riverside Park and hoping for a snow day, or teaching Icarus to high five on command. Her love of music, literature, cats, and confetti spans across her personal and professional lives, as does her eye for color and appreciation of small joys, silly moments, and the beauty in what’s unexpected.
